Starting on next possible date our Department Computational Social Science (CSS), Team Transparent Social Analytics located in Cologne, is looking for a

Student Research Assistant
(14,87 € hourly rate, 10 hrs./ month, temporary)

The department Computational Social Science (CSS) collects digital behavioral data and provides computer-based methods for collecting and analyzing such data for social science research. It also supports scientists with the integration of digital behavioral data into their research designs. The department's research focuses on the quality of digital behavioral data, the development and validation of computational social science methods and the transformation of digital societies.

We are looking for a motivated Student Assistant in the Competence Center for Data quality in the Social Sciences - KODAQS project to support our team in the areas of development, with a focus on computational social science and research data quality.

Your tasks will be:

  • Support the development and maintenance of our Data Quality Toolbox (Docker and R-based) and its web interface
  • Assist researchers in integrating their R or Python-based tools for data quality assessment
  • Collaborate with researchers on tasks related to computational social science and research data quality



Your profile:

  • Currently enrolled in Computer Science, Data Science, Social Sciences, or a related field on a Master’s program (should have at least 1 year ahead to finish the program)
  • Experience with front-end web technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript; hands-on experience with R; knowledge of Python is an advantage
  • Comfortable working with Git, Linux, and Docker
  • Good command of English (spoken and written)
  • Interest in computational social science, open science, or research data quality
